Garden Cage Construction

We've got terrorist squirrels living in the several oak trees in the yard that dig up just about everything I plant, so I decided I'd better come up with something to protect the tomato plants. We had the windows in the house replaced last year and most of the old screens were still in the garage so I decided I'd use those to construct a cage of sorts. I say cage, since as I zip tied the screens together in the driveway, I closed myself inside, much to Eric's amusement. It basically looks like a phone booth. One of the neighbors from down the street stood at the end of her driveway, mail in hand, and watched me for several minutes without saying a word. I imagine it did look a bit curious. Hopefully it keeps the squirrels out though.

Growing our own tomatoes

We stopped by a local nursery for some hanging plants today and Eric picked out three little tomato plants. They're tiny little things, just a few inches tall. We put them in one pot, but we'll have to repot them later. They're a bush variety, so no staking.
