Spotted my first flower on a bean plant today. It's a pretty little purple thing. I was thrilled to read online that beans don't need bees for pollination so I can leave it inside the screen cage for protection.

It all started with a little free time and some hanging baskets. Then last summer I grew beans, tomatoes, and zucchini in 5-gallon containers. Fall brought carrots, onions, broccoli, and garlic, still in containers. With Spring I was inspired to construct a raised garden bed. It all sits in the front corner of our corner lot, the only place in the yard that gets full sun.
